 All the birds, chipmunks and squirrels in Larry Evans' Kansas City neighborhood hang out in his yard!

It isn't hard to figure out why.  Evans says:  The animals come here because he doesn't use chemicals on the lawn.  Other neighborhood yards are "repugnant with all the poisons," he says.

Evans has opted instead for an organic yard service, BioTurf in Kansas City.

"I'm a physician, and I realized toxins were doing bad things to people," says Evans, who is now retired.

Gary Niemeyer, owner of BioTurf, says the secret to organic lawn care is introducing natural disease-fighting microbes to yards.  Chemicals are unnecessary and toxic, he says.

The logo for Niemeyer's business is a triangle.  One side represents biological microbes in the soil, the second represents the soil structure, and the third represents the natural occuring elements in the soil.
